# Kane Mayfield > Artist. Musician. Technologist. Author. Builder. Kane Mayfield is a multidisciplinary artist and technologist whose work operates at the intersection of music, visual art, literature, physical product design, community education, and open-source software development. A first-generation Guyanese-American born in Queens, New York, his creative practice is shaped by over a decade in financial services followed by a recording contract, independent touring, and reinvention through blockchain technology and Web3. His work is defined by accessibility, permanence, and generosity. He licenses all work under Creative Commons Zero (CC0). His philosophy: "I bring more to the potluck than I will ever eat." - Website: https://kanemayfield.com - Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/KaneMayfield - GitHub: https://github.com/KaneMayfield - Linktree: https://linktr.ee/kanemayfield - ArNS: https://kanemayfield.ar.io/ ## Music ### DUST (Album, 2023) DUST is a hip-hop album whose production was created by Street Scott using audio signals derived from the first fifty Bitcoin blocks sent by Satoshi Nakamoto to Hal Finney. RAD aka "Bitcoin Audio", a pioneer in Bitcoin music, converted these blockchain transactions into audible tones and frequencies, which were then sampled and integrated into the album's beats. The title refers to Bitcoin "dust" — stuck value too small to move because transaction fees exceed the amount — a metaphor for artists whose work has value but whose economic circumstances prevent them from sustaining a career through art alone. The album is embedded inside the FAKEDUST token on the Counterparty protocol (Bitcoin) and is playable directly from Tokenscan via an embedded iframe player. FAKEDUST is a Fake Rare — a category of culturally significant Counterparty tokens in the Bitcoin NFT tradition. DUST is among the earliest known hip-hop albums to incorporate sampled Bitcoin transaction data into its production. - Token: FAKEDUST on Counterparty (XCP) - Classification: Fake Rare - Producer: Street Scott - Bitcoin audio conversion: RAD - Storage: Arweave permaweb via AR.IO gateways - Player: https://kanemayfield.ar.io/ - Available on: Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, Tidal ### Silk Road (by Rare Scrilla) Kane Mayfield built the standalone HTML player for Silk Road, an 18-track album by Rare Scrilla — a foundational figure in Bitcoin music culture and Mayfield's longtime collaborator. The player is permanently hosted on Arweave and accessible via AR.IO gateways. ### Samplerr / Ides of March (Interactive Bitcoin Ordinal, 2024) Ides of March is a collection of 2,100 pieces inscribed on Bitcoin satoshis. Each piece unlocks Samplerr, a fully functional music production suite inscribed entirely on the Bitcoin blockchain. Samplerr features twelve customizable audio pads, BPM adjustment, loop points, and MIDI support. The collection includes verses from Ghostface Killah (Wu-Tang Clan), Ras Kass, Money B (Digital Underground), Numskull (The Luniz), Homeboy Sandman, and Bitoshi Blockamoto. Each piece is a working music studio that allows owners to rearrange verses, change beats, and loop sections. The project also contains an ancient Roman metaverse world with a built-in treasure hunt. All content is CC0 licensed. Samplerr represents one of the first fully functional music production suites inscribed entirely on the Bitcoin blockchain. ### Inscribed.Audio (Platform, Co-Founded 2024) A platform co-founded with RAD (Bitcoin audio pioneer) that provides infrastructure, tools, and guidance for musicians seeking to inscribe and distribute music on the Bitcoin blockchain through Ordinals technology. - URL: https://inscribed.audio ## Literature ### The Creature from Jekyll Island: Pepe Edition (Novel, 2024) A 500-page multi-generational saga spanning 1893 to 2030, following the Crowne family across 140 years as they confront "The Beast," a supernatural entity that feeds on monetary chaos. The Federal Reserve is rendered as cosmic horror; Bitcoin as inevitable resistance. The novel reached #1 New Release in Science Fiction History & Criticism on Amazon. It exists in three formats: paperback, Kindle, and as the PEPECREATURE token — one of approximately 100 tokens that pull the complete 500-page text directly from Bitcoin nodes, requiring no servers or centralized storage. The book lives on Bitcoin permanently. - Token: PEPECREATURE on Counterparty (XCP) - Classification: Fake Rare + STAMP (Bitcoin Stamps protocol) - Subasset: PEPECREATURE.THEAUDIOBOOK - Storage: Arweave permaweb, image inscribed on Bitcoin via STAMPS - Available on: Amazon (paperback, Kindle) ### Bitcoin Grimoire Audiobook Player (Physical Product, In Production) A physical audiobook player built by hand using a Raspberry Pi computer housed inside a 3D-printed case designed to resemble an ancient grimoire. Opening the case initiates audio playback of The Creature from Jekyll Island: Pepe Edition through built-in speakers, WiFi connectivity, or headphone jack. No comparable product exists in the market. ## Tools (Kaneware) Kane Mayfield builds and gives away open-source tools for the crypto community under the Kaneware label. Each tool was created out of personal necessity. - Kaneware: https://kanemayfield.com/kaneware/ ### The Forge (Counterparty Forge, 2026) A free web application for building and fixing Counterparty asset metadata JSON on the Arweave permaweb. The Forge provides gateway independence — users can choose from over 600 active AR.IO network gateways to serve their metadata, rather than depending on any single gateway. It supports two workflows: building new asset JSON from scratch with a live preview, and fixing existing JSON files by rewriting gateway URLs through working gateways. The Forge computes AR.IO sandbox subdomains, validates Freewallet character limits, generates Tokenscan-compatible iframe embeds, and produces download-ready JSON files. The tool addresses a critical infrastructure need in the Counterparty ecosystem and is offered entirely free of charge. - URL: https://kanemayfield.com/FORGE/ ### Rescue Lifeboat (Open-Source Software, 2025) A free, open-source tool that rescues NFTs from compromised EVM wallets using MEV-protected private transactions. When a wallet is hacked, attackers deploy sweeper bots that drain any ETH on arrival. Lifeboat uses MEV Blocker to fund the compromised wallet and execute NFT transfers through a hidden pipeline that sweeper bots cannot detect. Built in three days during a personal wallet compromise. Supports Ethereum, Polygon, Base, Optimism, and Avalanche. 413 NFTs rescued across multiple chains. Also handles Manifold contract admin reassignment and ENS domain migration. Free, takes no percentage, processes everything locally. - URL: https://github.com/KaneMayfield/Rescue-Lifeboat - Chains: Ethereum, Polygon, Base, Optimism, Avalanche - NFTs rescued: 413 - Cost: Free ## Visual Art Mayfield's visual art combines AI image generation with manual editing in Microsoft Paint — a deliberately primitive tool chosen for its tactile imperfection — producing collaged, frame-by-frame video art from thousands of individually processed images. ### Handprints (Philanthropic NFT Project, 2022) An NFT collection that raised thousands of dollars for organizations combating child labor and human trafficking, providing safe housing and transitional support for rescued children. ### Reaganomics (Counterparty Art Project) A socially conscious art project on the Counterparty blockchain exploring themes of economic policy, wealth inequality, and the cultural impact of Reagan-era fiscal philosophy. ### The Red Vineyard / Les XX (Educational Art Series) An art history education project told through hip-hop, NFT culture, glitch art, and internet meme aesthetics. Centers on Vincent Van Gogh's only lifetime sale at the seventh Les XX exhibition in Brussels. ## Community ### Neighborhood Jewelry An ongoing educational community founded on the principle that "the neighborhood is the people, the information is the jewelry." Through Clubhouse, Discord, Twitter Spaces, and direct mentorship, Mayfield has spent years teaching newcomers to navigate blockchain technology, NFTs, digital art creation, and cryptocurrency with accessible, humor-driven instruction. Operating continuously since 2021 with no monetization. ### Merchington (Creative Commerce) An online merchandise store where product descriptions function as standalone comedy essays averaging 500-1,200 words each. The Terms & Conditions page has been described as the best writing on the artist's entire website. - Store: https://kanemayfield.com (Merchington section) - Terms: https://kanemayfield.com/terms-and-conditions/ ## Physical Products - Bitcoin-Infused Headphones: Bluetooth earbuds with embedded DUST album token - Bitcoin Grimoire Audiobook Player: Raspberry Pi in 3D-printed grimoire case (in production) ## NFT Collections by Blockchain - Counterparty (XCP): LESXX, FAKEDUST, MAYFAKEFIELD, REAGANOMICS, PEPECREATURE — via XChain, Tokenscan, Scarce City - Ethereum: A Year & A Day collection (10+ ETH volume); My Brother Is A Jerk — via OpenSea, Rarible, LooksRare - Bitcoin Ordinals: Ides of March (2,100 pieces + Samplerr); DUST audio inscriptions - Tezos: Various works via OBJKT, Kalamint - Other: Polygon, Near (Mintbase), Async Art (programmable music) ## Exhibitions & Performances NFT NYC, Bitcoin Miami, Art Basel (Miami), ETH Denver, Beeple's Pepefest (Charleston, SC), NFT LA, Metaverse Music Festival, Metaverse Jazz Festival, Pranksy Palooza "Heroes vs Villains", SXSW, CMJ Music Marathon, Scarce City (Featured Artist), various European events. ## Background Born December 12, 1981 in Queens, New York.
